Comprehensive Bilingual Academic Achievement Assessment (English & Spanish)
Our assessors will use the Woodcock-Johnson® IV Tests of Achievement (WJ IV ACH) and the Batería IV Woodcock-Muñoz®: Pruebas de Aprovechamiento to complete this comprehensive bilingual assessment.
The Comprehensive Bilingual Academic Achievement Assessment combines the Woodcock-Johnson® IV Tests of Achievement (WJ IV ACH) and the Batería IV Woodcock-Muñoz®: Pruebas de Aprovechamiento to provide a comprehensive evaluation of a student's academic skills in both English and Spanish. This assessment is ideal for bilingual students, English learners, dual-language students, and children whose academic performance is influenced by more than one language.
By evaluating academic skills across both languages, this assessment helps identify whether learning difficulties are related to language acquisition, academic skill development, or a combination of factors. Results provide valuable information for educational planning, instructional decision-making, and discussions with schools regarding appropriate educational supports and services.
A Research-Based Assessment
The Woodcock-Johnson IV and the Batería IV are companion assessments developed using comparable theoretical frameworks and nationally representative norming samples. Together, they provide a reliable and comprehensive picture of a student's academic achievement across languages while allowing the evaluator to examine strengths and areas of need in reading, writing, and mathematics. Areas We Typically Assess
READING
Reading skills are evaluated in both English and Spanish to examine foundational reading skills, decoding, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Comparing performance across languages helps identify areas of strength while providing important information about bilingual literacy development.
WRITING
Writing is evaluated in both English and Spanish, including spelling, written expression, and writing fluency. Results help determine how effectively a student communicates ideas in each language and identify any differences in written language development.
MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is assessed in one language only. The language of assessment is determined by the evaluator based on parent input, the student's educational history, language exposure, and available academic records or school reports. Assessing mathematics in the student's strongest instructional language provides the most accurate representation of mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills while avoiding the influence of language proficiency on math performance.
Comprehensive Report
Following the assessment, families receive a detailed written report summarizing the student's academic performance in both English and Spanish, highlighting strengths and areas for growth.
